Description
Brunswick Place is a terrace of three houses built in the early 19th century, after 1813. The houses are constructed of stucco and feature chamfered quoins. They have a hipped slate roof with two ashlar and two brick chimneys, and wide eaves with a coved cornice. The terrace is three storeys high with a basement and has a total of six windows, which are glazing bar sashes set in architraves. The first-floor windows have wrought-iron balconies. The center house includes a wide porch with a tented canopy supported by a trellis. It has a segment-headed doorway in an architrave, featuring a three-panel door with a segmental overlight. Number 31, which has a stair-turret at the back, was the residence of Christina Rossetti during 1853 and 1854 while she was teaching in Rome. The houses also retain contemporary staircases inside.
