Three Monuments In Churchyard, About 14 Metres South Of South Transept, Church Of St Peter And St Paul

Three monuments are located in the churchyard about 14 metres south of the south transept of the Church of St Peter and St Paul. The first is the Harding monument, a chest tomb from the early 19th century made of Ham stone. It features a moulded plinth on a stepped base, with one panel on each face flanked by fluted pilasters and no frieze. The shallow hipped top has rounded leading edges. This tomb commemorates Mary, the wife of William Harding, who died in 1807.

The second monument is an unidentified headstone located about 3 metres south of the Harding monument, dating from around 1700. It is made of Ham stone and measures approximately 600mm by 650mm and 100mm thick. It has a semi-circular arched panel with fluted sideshafts and scroll decoration at the top, though the inscription is badly worn.

The third headstone is immediately south of the second and dates from the later 17th century. Also made of Ham stone, it measures about 600mm by 600mm and 100mm thick, featuring a plain panel with a shouldered semi-circular arched top that displays a sideways skull. This headstone commemorates Anne, who died in 1677.
