Description
The stable located at the driveway entrance to Spargrove Manor dates back to 1749, as indicated by the incised keystone above the doorway. It has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The structure is built from coursed and squared rubble with freestone dressings and features the remains of coped verges, topped with an asbestos sheeting roof. It is a single-storey building with three bays. On each side, there are wooden-mullioned and transomed casements set in a keyed surround, while the central door opening is framed by an architrave and features a plank door with a transom light above. The stable is topped with a gabled pediment that has a cornice and an elaborate achievement depicting a bear holding an antlered skull. At the time of the last survey in April 1986, the building was noted to be in a poor state of repair.
