Description

A row of three cottages dating from the 18th century, situated on the north side of High Street in Coleford. The cottages are constructed of rubble, with roughcast rendering, and have tile, pantile, and triple-Roman tile roofs, with a single coped verge and brick stacks.

Montrose and Rose Cottage form the right-hand section, with two and three-light, edge-moulded stone mullioned windows. Rose Cottage has a weathered string course above the ground-floor openings, a central door opening in a freestone surround, and a 20th-century half-glazed door. Montrose features a door opening in a 20th-century gabled porch with a flush door. The Cottage, set back to the left, has a gabled wing projecting at right angles to the frontage. It includes a casement window with glazing bars in a painted stone surround on the ground floor, along with two door openings: a 19th-century panelled door and a 20th-century half-glazed door. A semi-circular stair turret is located on the left return.
