Description
The orangery, now functioning as a chapel, was built in the early 19th century, likely by Richard Carver. It is constructed of ashlar limestone and features a shallow pitched slate roof that is concealed behind a crenellated parapet adorned with finials, which encircles the building. The structure has angled stepped buttresses and is rectangular in plan, with flat-roofed single bay projections at the southwest and northeast ends, the latter connecting to a three-bay service wing. Designed in the Gothic style, the orangery is a single storey with a 1:5:1 bay arrangement, showcasing four-centred arched openings and mullioned and transomed windows with glazing bars. Stepped buttresses are positioned between each bay, and there are central double doors that match the design of the windows. The rear elevation is similar in appearance. Inside, there is a five-bay arcade featuring wooden four-centred arches, a lattice work entablature, and a clearstorey that is also illuminated at the gable ends.
