Description
This building is a barn and attached stables dating from the 19th century, located about 20 meters west of Midney Farmhouse. It is constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, and features double Roman clay tile roofs with stepped coped gables topped with ball finials. The structure has a 'U' plan and is single storey, though the height varies. The barn consists of seven bays, with an additional bay added to the southwest. The first bay has a blocked elliptical archway, followed by ventilation slits in each bay leading to a central throughway. This throughway has a projecting gabled porch on the northwest face, which includes a keystoned elliptical archway. The two bays closest to the house have been adapted for living accommodation, featuring an inserted floor and a dormer window. Attached to the northern corner is a single storey run of stabling that extends northwestwards and returns to the southwest, all matching the original construction. There is also 20th-century stabling to the southwest, but it is not of special interest. The barn and stables have good group value with Midney Farmhouse.
