Description

The National Westminster Bank in Minehead is a bank building constructed around 1910 for the National Provincial Bank. It features ashlar stonework with a later brick extension at the rear, and has a roof that is not visible from the exterior. The building is situated on a corner site and has a rectangular plan, with a lower extension facing Market House Lane. It is designed in the Edwardian Baroque style and consists of two storeys with a seven-window range. The front has five windows, with the rightmost window located on a curved corner, and two additional windows on the right return.

A curved balustraded parapet crowns the front and right return, sitting above a dentiled cornice. The central three bays on the front and the two on the right return are stepped forward and are framed by Ionic columns in antis on the first floor. The windows, which are 6/6-pane sash, have moulded architraves with keystones that transition into alternate triangular and segmental-arched pediments. The ground floor features banded rustication and has 20th-century glazing in segmental-arched windows, which are adorned with moulded keystones and lion's head decorations. The porch has blocked columns that support an open segmental-arched pediment, which includes an oculus in the tympanum. The interior has not been inspected.
