Description
This building is a barn located about 40 metres north-east of Amberd House. It dates from the 18th century and was altered in the 19th century. The north face is constructed of sandstone and lias random rubble, while the south face is timber framed with brick infill above an open shelter shed. The brick used in the west gable end is from two different periods. The roof features triple Roman tiles on the north side and plain clay tiles on the south, with coped verges.
The barn has a linhay plan with tall brick gable ends, and the north front appears to have been refaced, giving it the look of a first-floor barn. The south face has timber framing with brick infill, featuring large double doors on the first floor to the left and a square-headed opening to the right, with an open shelter shed below. The north front includes a loft door opening to the left, a large double door to the right, and a small opening beyond, along with a square-headed door on the ground floor. This building is quite unusual, presenting two distinct facades, and it forms a good group with the garden walls and summer house to the west.
