Description
57 and 59 Church Road are a pair of cottages that were originally part of Eastbrook Farm, dating from around 1850. The farmbuilding was altered in the late 20th century and may have been designed by C. E. Giles. The cottages are constructed of chert random rubble with Ham stone mullions and quoins. They feature patterned clay tiles, decorative ridge tiles, overhanging eaves, sprockets, and a large central stack with eight angled brick chimney pots.
The buildings are one and a half storeys high and consist of two bays, which are distinguished by central quoins. Each has two gables that project through the eaves, featuring blank panels and three-light, multi-paned casements. The ground floor has four-light casements under relieving arches, with entrances located on the returns.
To the right, there is a single-storey wing linked to the farmbuilding, which is set back with its gable end facing the road. This wing is also made of chert random rubble and has a slate roof with coped verges and 20th-century windows in the gable end. The cottages form a cohesive group with Nos 36-42 opposite and are part of the Eastbrook estate.
