Description
The Trull War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was unveiled in 1920, with later additions to honor those who served in the Second World War. It is located in the south-west corner of the churchyard of the Church of All Saints, which is a Grade I-listed building.
The memorial is carved from Hamstone and features a medieval-style lantern cross with a canopied top that is ornately decorated with relief carvings, including the Crucifixion and the dove of peace, and is topped with crocketed finials. The lantern is set on a cruciform column that has a moulded capital and crocketed carving at its upper part. This column rises from a chamfered, square plinth that stands on a three-stepped, square base.
On the west face of the plinth, there is an inset panel that carries the main dedicatory inscription, which reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN LOVING MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO DIED FOR KING AND COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR." The names of the Fallen are carved on the panels on the north and south faces. A bronze plaque on the east face lists the five men who fell in the Second World War.
