Description
The Cider House, located about 20 meters northeast of Trull Green Farmhouse, is a late 17th to early 18th century structure that was enlarged shortly after its original construction and altered with a new roof in the mid-20th century. It is built of red brick in Flemish bond, with randomly inserted purple headers on the left side and an irregular rubble plinth. The roof is made of corrugated iron and is half hipped to the left, featuring a timber-framed gable end.
The building has a north-south orientation, with its west face facing the foldyard and Trull Green Farmhouse. It is two storeys tall, with the right half of the wall slightly recessed, which is believed to be a later addition. There is a blocked segmental-headed doorway on the left and a small unglazed segmental-headed window to the right. The right side has a recessed wall with square-headed window openings, while the left side features a half-timbered gabled end with brick infill, a square-headed loft opening, and a small square glazed opening with a wooden lintel below. There are also two possible putlog holes at the first-floor level.
Inside, the Cider House contains a chamfered beam with run-out stops and remnants of cider-making machinery. It is an interesting example of early brick farm building, likely contemporary with the boundary wall that abuts the southwest corner of Trull Green Farmhouse and the brick infill in the jettied gable end of Gatchell Cottage across the street.
