Description
The Pipers is an inn that dates back to the 17th century, with a front added in the 18th century and a three-bay range built in the mid to late 19th century. The original five-bay section on the southwest is constructed of coursed rubble, while the front is rendered and colourwashed. It features a double Roman tile roof with a coped verge and a brick stack. The symmetrical two-storey frontage has 12-pane sash windows with exposed sash boxes, a central half-glazed door, and a fanlight with radiating glazing bars.
The later three-bay range to the northeast is taller and made of coursed and squared rubble. It has wide bracketed eaves, a bitumenised hipped slate roof, and brick stacks. The sash windows here also have glazing bars, with two on the right featuring semi-circular heads in a shallow projecting wing that has a front-facing gable. The central door opening has paired three-panelled doors, the top two of which are glazed, along with a transomlight that includes glazing bars. The building is believed to have connections to The Battle of Sedgemoor.
