Description
The Old Smithy is a cottage that includes a disused smithy, dating from the 17th and 19th centuries. It has a rendered exterior over random rubble and features steeply pitched roofs, with double Roman tiles on the smithy and thatch on the dwelling, which has a brick stack on the left. The dwelling is on the right, with an attached single-storey wing that was originally the smithy, extending with a long return elevation. The building is one and one and a half storeys high and has a 2:2 bay arrangement. The main block features very large 4- and 6-light transomed casements with glazing bars. There is a round-headed doorway in the center with a six-panel door and a carved mask above it. To the left, there is an early 19th-century 4-light window with a four-centred arch, where the center lights have marginal glazing that has been re-set, and to the right, there is a 20th-century metal casement with leaded panes.
