Description
Fir Tree Farmhouse, originally known as the Fleur-de-Lys Coaching Inn, dates back to the 17th century and was modified in the 19th century. The building is constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, topped with a plain clay tile roof featuring a stepped coped gable on the north side and brick chimney stacks. It stands two storeys high with three wide bays, although a fourth bay has collapsed in recent years. The windows are mostly horizontal bar casements with timber lintels, primarily three-light, but the second bay features four-light windows on both levels. There is no window in the lower part of the first bay, and a label is present over the lower part of the third bay. Between the second and third bays, there is a wide six-flush panel door with glazed toplights, set within a colourwashed brick and tiled porch. The south gable is rendered and has steel casement windows, while the north gable shows brick patching at the top and has a lower matching extension with a Welsh slated lean-to on the west side. The interior has not been seen. Located six metres west of the farmhouse is a three-step mounting block made of lias stone, which serves as a reminder of the building's coaching history.
