Description
Manor Lodge, along with its gate piers and associated walling, is a lodge to the Manor House, built in the mid to late 19th century for JH Stephenson. The structure is made of random rubble with a roof featuring plain tiles and fishtail tiles arranged in a diaper pattern, complete with a crested ridge and pierced, cusped bargeboards. It has paired hexagonal stacks with stone caps and is designed in a Tudor-Gothic style. The lodge is single storey with a symmetrical layout of 1:1 bays. On the left side, there is a two-light stone mullioned window beneath a gablet, with each light having a foiled head and leaded lights, along with a stopped label. The right bay features a three-light canted bay window with a stone dividing mullion and leaded lights, topped by a hipped stone roof. Above this bay is a blank quatrefoil that incorporates a shield. There is a door opening on the left return, which has a plank door and an elaborate dressed stone porch.
The entrance is marked by a pair of gate piers made of rubble and dressed stone, featuring corner pilasters and cross-gabled caps. There are sections of curved rubble wall on each side, capped with dressed stone. At the end of each wall, there is a further low pier; the one on the right is cross-gabled, while the one on the left has been rebuilt with a plain cement capping.
