Description
Woodlands House is a house, now divided into flats, dating from around 1800. It was altered in the late 19th century when shaped gables and canted bays were added to the south front. The building is roughcast with slate roofs, coped verges, and buff brick stacks. It has a U-plan layout facing east, with a longer south front that features a summer house at the southwest gable end.
The house is two storeys high with an attic and consists of five bays. It has shaped Flemish gables over the paired outer bays, and an oval window in a shaped surround in the attic space. The gable ends have semi-circular headed 12-pane sash windows, while the ground floor has 12-pane sash windows beneath, all with keystones and lintels. There is a flat-roofed ashlar Doric porch with a metope frieze, a semi-circular headed doorway, a fanlight with radiating bars, and double panelled doors.
On the south front, there are two full-height canted bays with hipped roofs and sashes that have horizontal bars. The first-floor summer house features a pyramid slate roof with a slight bell cast and is timber framed. The interior includes a partially seen stick stair with a cut string and moulded plaster cornices.
