Description
The Malthouse is a house that dates from the 17th century and has undergone later alterations. It is constructed of coursed rubble Doulting stone with ashlar quoins. The roof is made of stone slate, featuring a gable with a coped left side and a plain right side, along with an end stone stack. The building has a two-storey 'L'-shaped plan and a four-window front, with the entrance located between the first and second windows. The entrance features a six-fielded and moulded panel door set in a square head frame. There is a wide segmental stone arch with double doors leading to a cart entrance, situated under the third window, which is an angular bay with fixed glazed panels divided into six panes. The property also has two- and three-light stone mullion windows, which are fitted with 19th-century casements. It is believed that the building evolved from a standard medieval three-room and cross-passage house, according to a report from August 1981.
