Description
Rookes House is a house that dates from the 18th century or earlier. It is constructed from local stone rubble coursed, with rusticated ashlar quoins, and features a plain clay tile roof with simple gables and brick end chimney stacks. The building has two storeys with an attic and consists of three bays. It has 16-pane sash windows that are set under exposed timber lintels. The central porch, which is made of stone and tiles, is a 20th-century addition and includes a glazed outer door and side windows. Inside, there is a plain boarded inner door, and relieving arches on the ground floor suggest an earlier window pattern. The north gable has a blocked mullioned attic window, likely featuring a reserved chamfer pattern. There is a 19th-century extension at the rear, along with a further extension in the southeast corner that was added in 1928, both designed to match the original style. The interior has not been seen.
