Description
This is a range of former stables, now used as a store, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century for the Bamfylde family. The building is constructed from coursed and squared rubble and features a hipped triple-Roman tile roof, with some stone tiles at the eaves and a crested ridge. The symmetrical south elevation has two storeys and has had its internal flooring removed.
There are six large pitching eyes with moulded oval freestone surrounds and four keys on the first floor, along with a central 2-light stone-mullioned window. The ground floor originally had a wide central door opening framed by a bolection-moulded freestone architrave with a triangular pediment, which is now blocked. On either side of this opening, there are two 2-light stone-mullioned and transomed casements, although one on the extreme right has part of the mullion missing, and another on the right has been completely removed to accommodate a large non-conforming doorway.
Additionally, there are two smaller doorways with edge-roll moulded stone surrounds; one has been removed for the large doorway, while the other is blocked. At the east end, there is a lean-to with a wide elliptical headed archway. The north elevation features a wide central bolection-moulded freestone architrave door opening, with roof falls on either side leading to single storeyed lean-tos, which have window openings in dressed stone surrounds. The interior includes a 19th-century roof.
