Description
19 and 19A Hermitage Street are two houses, which may have originally been one house, dating from the early to mid-19th century. They are built of coursed limestone rubble with Ham Hill stone lintels, featuring a central doorcase, a plinth, and stepped stone coping. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has brick stacks at the gable ends. The houses have a double-depth plan and rise three storeys, presenting an almost symmetrical two-window range.
There are three steps leading up to a slightly left-of-centre, set-back, late 19th-century four-panel door, which has a reeded wooden lintel and a plain semi-circular overlight above. The plain doorcase is stepped inward and has reeded imposts. On all floors, the door is flanked by 8/8-pane sash windows; the lower floors have stone lintels, while the second-floor windows just break through the eaves-line and have wooden lintels above the gutter. To the far right, there is a four-panel door, glazed at the top, with an overlight in a concrete surround. Below the ground-floor window to the left, there is a cast-iron grille leading to a basement. The interior has not been inspected.
