Description
The gateway and gatehouse at Midelney Place, built around 1895, features coursed and squared lias stone with Ham stone dressings, including an eaves cornice. The roof is covered with plain tiles, has a rested ridge, and is topped with ornamental end finials, along with two brick ridge stacks. Designed in a loose Arts and Crafts style reminiscent of the work by Skipper of Norwich, the structure is rectangular with a small wing at the rear and stands two storeys tall.
The prominent frontage includes a large throughway on the left, which has a moulded stone lintel supported by stone corbels, with first-floor beams projecting over at the eaves level. The entrance features paired plank gates with iron strap-hinges, above which is a gabled dormer with paired two-light casements that have glazing bars and a planted frame, along with rendered and colourwashed nogging. To the right of the frontage, there is irregular fenestration with three-light casements featuring glazing bars and a single-light opening. A forecourt to the right is enclosed by coursed and squared lias walling, complemented by a curving section of decorative iron railings.
