Description
49 Castle Street is a late 17th-century building that has two storeys and an attic, with a cellar below. The structure is made of rubble and features a pantile roof. It has one main bay and a slightly later extension from the early 18th century on the right, which has a gable end. The first-floor window and stair light on the left have wooden ovolo and moulded surrounds. There is a two-light mullion window with wooden ovolo in the gable wing to the right. Two doors are situated next to each other at the angle of the building. At the rear, the attic has been built up. Inside, there is a winder stair to the left of the chimney with incised risers and a newel post. The doorway on the first floor features a stopped ovolo surround. A cupboard to the right of the ground floor fireplace has a seat, suggesting the presence of an inglenook or bread oven.
