Description
St Paul's House, located at the end of Corporation Street, is a prominent building that features two contrasting sections. The eastern part is a three-storey square stucco house dating from around 1800, topped with a hipped slate roof. It has three sash windows with glazing bars and iron balconies on the first floor. The entrance is marked by a doorcase with an open pediment and a fanlight. The southwest block, believed to be an early work of architect J F Bentley from 1867, was originally part of the Convent of Perpetual Adoration. This section has a train gabled range that runs north and south, with a subsidiary gabled range at the southeast corner. It is constructed of coursed rubble with freestone dressings and features tiled roofs, buttresses, lancet windows, and large stone stacks.
