Description
The Coles family chest tomb, located 5 metres south-west of the tower at the Church of St Mary, dates from the late 18th century. It features stone panels made of Dundry stone on the front and south sides. The tomb has a ledger top with an ovolo moulded cornice and inscribed panels on the north and south, which are flanked by chamfered lozenges with chamfered squares above and below. The name "Coles," along with the date of death, 1786, is clearly visible on the south side. At the time of the survey, the tomb was partially sunk into the ground. It is similar in design to the John Winter chest tomb.
