Description
No. 13 Bridge Street is an early to mid-18th century building with a rendered front and a ripped slate roof featuring three dormers, one located on the right-hand hip and glazed on two sides. The structure has a plinth, a moulded cornice supported by modillions (some of which still display rosette decoration), and a blocking course. It stands two storeys tall and has five sash windows with glazing bars, each framed by moulded architraves and topped with pediments on pulvinated friezes at the ground floor. The central entrance features a panelled door set in a moulded eared architrave surround, with a doorcase that has a steep broken pediment enclosing a cartouche on Ionic pilasters, and a Phoenix Fire Insurance plaque in the tympanum. The building has an 'L' plan with a two-storey, two-window wing at the rear, where one window retains a flat mullion with ogee moulding and a drip. There is a set-back stable extension behind the rear wing, which has three gables, the central one featuring an ashlar oeil de boeuf and a chamfered doorway. A yard entrance is located in front of the building. This structure served as a Market House during the 19th century.
