Description

Lillesdon Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, with alterations made later. It is constructed from squared and coursed local grey sandstone. The roof is thatched, hipped to the left, with a triple Roman tiled outshot addition. A slate-roofed cross wing is present, with a brick stack at the gable end. A further brick stack is located to the right, likely marking the end of the original structure. The plan may have originally been three cells with a cross passage, and a cross wing off the kitchen, extended at either end. The house is one and a half storeys high, with a front facade of one bay to the left, one bay central, and three bays to the right. A four-light ovolo moulded mullioned window rises from the eaves to the left of the cross wing, featuring a 12-pane sash window. The remaining three bays on the right have 8-pane sash windows set below the eaves. Ground floor windows on the left are obscured by the outshot addition, which has three 20th-century windows. The cross wing has a two-light window, while the right side, to the right of the entrance, has a four-light and a two-light steeply chamfered mullioned window. A 17th or 18th century plank door is located in the end bay on the right, along with a 20th-century part-glazed door set within a 20th-century glazed, slate-roofed porch. The interior, partially visible, reveals a four-panel compartment ceiling with steeply chamfered beams in the hall, and a possible jointed cruck roof. The house may contain other features of interest.
