ST31SE Group of 4 monuments in churchyard about 3 metres south 4/34 of chancel, Church of St. John the Evangelist and All Saints GV II

Group of 2 chest tombs and 2 headstones: (a) Chest tomb 3 metres south of chancel: probably C17. Ham stone. Base and body part buried; plain north flank and east end, west end has proundstanding plain shield and south flank 2 semi-circular arched panels; cyma-recta coving to almost flat top. Commemorates Richard ----, death date below ground. (b) Chest tomb immediately east of last; Probably C17. Ham stone, base and body part buried; sides have one panel each face with bolection-mould frame; moulded coving to shallow hipped top. Commemorates Ann, wife of Christopher Budd, death date buried. (c) Headstone 1.5m south and between items (a) and (b). C18. Ham stone, size 900mm wide x 1250mm high x l10mm thick, chamfered back; shaped top with 2 angel-heads in semi-circular arches, the heads markedly proud of face of stone, with hourglass between and scrolls to sides, single panel with carved border. Inscriptions not readable. (d) Headstone 3.5m south and between items (a) and (b): C18. Ham stone, size 750mm wide x 1000mm high x l00mm thick; shaped head with 2 semi- circular arched panels having angel-heads, scrolls to sides; 2 panels with carved frames and centre drop. Inscriptions not readable.
