Description

West Villa is a house with probable origins in the early 18th century, significantly altered in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and with a 20th-century outshut. The house is constructed of pinkish-brown brick with ashlar dressings, and has a pantile roof. It follows a central hallway plan and is two storeys high, with three windows on the first floor. Features include a three-course plinth and a step leading to a six-panel door, which is set within a pilastered doorcase with a frieze and cornice, and has an oblong fanlight above. The windows are unequally-hung 9-pane sashes set in flush wood architraves, with stone sills and wedge lintels incorporating fluted keystones. Stepped eaves run along the roofline. Ashlar kneelers and coping are visible at the gable ends, and end stacks are present. Inside, chamfered beams are found in most ceilings, with carved stops in the left-hand ground floor room. The kitchen and dining room fireplaces feature chamfered bressummer beams.
