Description

Oaklands is a house dating from 1735, as indicated by a plaque reading "James & Eliz. / Ward 1735" in the gable. The house is constructed of orange-brown brick with dressings in magnesian limestone ashlar and has a pantile roof. It follows a central hallway plan and has two storeys and four first-floor windows. A brick plinth is present, alongside a step leading to a 20th-century glazed front door. The outer bays feature 20-pane sashes, while the inner bays have sashes with glazing bars. All window and door openings are arched with gauged brick and have stone sills. Decorative features include a four-course first-floor band, a modillion eaves band, and swept roof gables with magnesian limestone kneelers and coping. Brick end stacks are also present.

Inside, most rooms feature chamfered beams with plain stops, although some are now boxed in. A bressummer beam is visible in the kitchen fireplace. Original latches and two wall cupboards are located in the right-hand ground floor room.
