Description
Kelmire Grange Farmhouse is a late 18th-century farmhouse with later additions and alterations. It is constructed from coursed squared herringbone-tooled stone and features a 20th-century pantile roof. The building has two storeys with an attic and consists of three bays, with wings extending to the rear on both the left and right sides, and an outshut in between that extends to the back.
The garden front has a chamfered plinth and a central 20th-century board door with an overlight, flanked by tall three-light 20th-century casement windows, all of which have keyed lintels. On the first floor, there are shorter three-light casements with cemented lintels, with the left window featuring a tie-rod end above, and a central two-light casement with a keyed lintel. All windows have projecting cills. The building has shaped kneelers, with the left one broken off, and ashlar coping with end stacks.
An outbuilding attached to the right is not of special interest. At the rear, the right wing is part of the original structure, while the left wing is an addition made from untooled coursed nibble and features a ground-floor window with a tripartite lintel. The outshut addition has been extended in brick in the 20th century.
On the right return, there is a small 12-pane side-sliding sash window in the gable of the main range, which has a tripartite lintel and projecting cill. The lower wing projecting on the right has a first-floor window with a similar lintel. The left return features a window in the gable of the main block, similar to that on the right gable. The lower two-storey, two-bay wing on the left has a 20th-century half-glazed door on the right, with a 20th-century three-light window to the left, and a three-light side-sliding sash to the far left. Above, there are two two-light side-sliding sashes, all openings having keyed lintels. The left end has a shaped kneeler and ashlar coping, along with two brick stacks.
Inside, the rear right wing contains a sunken-floored dairy. There is a dog-leg open-string staircase leading to the attic, featuring gun-barrel type balusters with vase bases.
