Description
The Old Dame School is a house that was originally built as a house and shop in the late 18th to early 19th century. It features coursed sandstone construction with stone slate and pantile roofs, along with wrought-iron railings. The building has two storeys and a layout of two first-floor windows on the left and one on the right. The left section includes a cellar beneath the first bay, while the right section, which was formerly a shop, is set back from the main facade.
At the angle of the building, there is a single-storey porch that has a part-glazed four-panel door set within a doorcase topped with an open pediment. The left section displays quoins and has 20th-century four-pane casement windows framed in ashlar surrounds. The roof features shaped kneelers, with ashlar coping, and is covered in stone slates, with brick stacks at the ends. The right section also has quoins and 20th-century four-pane casement windows in ashlar surrounds, with a pantile roof that has stone slates at the eaves.
On the rear of the building, there is a staircase window that features Gothick glazing bars and a brick round-arched head. The Old Dame School is included in the heritage listing for its group value.
