Description

Mount House is a hunting lodge with an attached cottage, built in the early to mid-18th century, with the cottage added in the early to mid-19th century. The original section was constructed for the 4th Viscount Fauconberg. The building features ashlar sandstone and coursed dressed sandstone, topped with Westmorland slate roofs. It has two storeys and a symmetrical façade with one bay on each side.

The lodge is made of ashlar stone with a rubble plinth and chamfered rusticated quoins. It has a round arch that extends through both storeys, featuring a recessed panel with a round-arched window on the ground floor, which has projecting imposts and keystones. There is a sill band on the first floor, which includes a two-light casement window. A moulded cornice runs along the top, and the hipped roof has a plinth at the apex where a finial was once placed but has since been removed.

To the right is the cottage, which has two lower storeys. It features a four-panel door with an overlight on the left side, and each floor has a side-sliding sash window. An end stack is located to the right of the cottage. The rear of the lodge has blind openings and an eaves stack. The left side of the lodge matches the front elevation. Mount House is situated at the highest point in Newburgh Park.
