Description
The dovecote, located in the garden of Ganthorpe House approximately 20 metres north of the house, dates from the 18th century or earlier. It is constructed from hammer-dressed sandstone and features a Westmorland slate roof. The building has a rectangular shape with walls that are about one metre thick. There is a stable door on the left side, set beneath a wooden lintel. The southern end of the dovecote has a much-worn opening for birds, situated beneath the eaves course. The roof is flipped, and the interior is divided into two storeys, with nesting boxes located on the first floor.
