Description
The Pyramid in Pretty Wood at Castle Howard is a Grade I listed structure built before 1727 by Nicholas Hawksmoor for Charles Howard, the 3rd Earl of Carlisle. It is made of limestone and stands approximately 8 metres tall. The pyramid features a square plinth that supports a rusticated base with a cyma reversa frieze, and the overall design is a rusticated pyramid. This structure is depicted on an estate map from 1727. At the time of the last survey, it was noted to be in a derelict condition. The site is also included in the Register of Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England, specifically for North Yorkshire: Castle Howard, where it holds Grade I status.
