Description
Eastgate House, located at 132 Eastgate, is an early 19th-century, two-storey house constructed from ashlar stone, featuring a hipped slate roof. The front elevation is now rough-rendered, with rusticated quoins. It has two large bow windows that reach full height, each with three lights and bun sash windows that include glazing bars. Above the central entrance is a window that has a moulded flat projecting hood supported by consoles. The entrance itself features a stone doorcase with steps leading up to it, flanked by three-quarter round Doric columns, an entablature, and an open pediment. A semi-circular fanlight with radiating bars sits above a six-panel moulded door. The front of the building includes a plain plinth, a moulded eaves cornice, and a blocking course, with stone window cills. There are also two stone gate piers, but no railings. Eastgate House is part of a group that includes Nos 105 to 126, the Royal Oak Public House, No 133, and Crossways Hotel, with some of these buildings being of local interest.
