Description

A threshing barn and sheds dating from the mid-18th century and later, located to the west of Langbaurgh Farm. The barn is constructed of coursed squared stone with brick gable ends. A small extension to the south is built of a mix of stone and brick, incorporating courses of mortared boulders. The buildings are roofed with pantiles, trimmed with stone. The barn, facing south, features a flat-roofed west addition and a small pent roofed extension to the south. Two parallel north wings create an overall L-shaped layout. The three-bay barn has opposed central wagon doors; the southern doorway has a deep segmental arch with raised voussoirs, a key stone, and impost blocks, with loading doors positioned above. Vents are created by spaces between the stone blocks. Stone copings and square kneelers are visible on the roof. A door was inserted into, and subsequently blocked, at the east end. The north ranges, which are one storey high, have boarded doors, two small windows (one a Yorkshire sash) on the road front, and small, louvred roof vents. These buildings were used as a tannery during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
