Description

Swine Cross is the base of a market cross dating from the 15th century. It is made of worn ashlar stone and features a stepped base that supports two masonry pedestals. One pedestal holds a weathered medieval capital, while the other displays a much-worn effigy of a recumbent animal, which may be a swine or a representation of the White Boar emblem associated with the Nevill family, who owned the nearby castle from 1270. This structure is also scheduled as an Ancient Monument.
