Description

This is a mid-18th century pigeoncote, located to the east of Cawood Wistow Gate. Constructed of red brick with a pantile roof and brick coping, the structure is two storeys high. The ground floor features two blocked openings with later elliptical arches, with an additional entrance inserted between them. A first-floor band runs around the building. Above are two further elliptical-arched openings. The interior contains nesting boxes on the first floor. The building’s architectural details were noted in a report by the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Vernacular Buildings Study Group (Report No. 822).
