Description
The Memorial to the Second Baron Feversham is a monument located in Helmsley Market Place, dating from around 1867. The statue, created by Matthew Noble, is made of limestone, while the canopy, designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, is constructed from sandstone. This monument is designed in the Gothic Revival style and stands on four steps. The statue depicts the figure in full regalia, facing south, and is set on a pedestal adorned with a frieze of naturalistic foliage.
The canopy is supported by four buttressed columns, each featuring shafts and heraldic beasts with shields at their bases. It has a four-gabled design with corner finials, cusping, and additional naturalistic foliage and crocketing. The pinnacle of the canopy includes a two-light cusped opening with quatrefoil tracery, which is heavily crocketed and flanked by finials, topped with a cross.
