Description

The Town Hall, built in 1901, is designed in the Queen Anne style by Temple Moore. It features a U-shaped plan with sandstone ashlar, plain tiles, stone stacks, and a wooden lantern. The building has two storeys and five bays. On the street front, there is a round-headed six-panel door to the right, set in a moulded doorcase with moulded jambs and a rusticated archivolt, flanked by brackets that once supported a balcony. The corn exchange section includes four arches with half-glazed doors, and corbelled-out keystones that support a band above. On the first floor, there are four two-light transomed mullion windows and a half-glazed doorway to the former balcony on the right. The building has a coved cornice and a hipped roof with stacks on the rear wings. The central lantern features round-arched windows and a dentilled cornice, topped with a curved pyramidal roof and a weather-vane.
