Description
The Former National Westminster Bank in Helmsley is an early 19th-century building that originally served as a bank and consists of two houses. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features a pantile roof with a brick stack.
The left section of the building is two storeys high and has two first-floor windows. It includes a three-fielded-panel door flanked by two sash windows with glazing bars. The first floor features nine-pane unequal sashes, and stone lintels with keystones are present throughout. The gable has coping, and there is a stack at the left end.
The right section of the building is three storeys tall and also has two first-floor windows. It has a 20th-century shop front with a door to the right and a cornice supported by moulded brackets. The first floor contains nine-pane unequal sashes, while the second floor features six-pane sashes, all set beneath flat arches. The gable also has coping, and there is an urn on the right gable end. The building is included mainly for its group value.
