Description
Starbeck County Primary School is a school built in 1896, designed in the Vernacular Revival style. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone with ashlar dressings and features slate roofs with coped ashlar gables, kneelers, and ball finials. The entrance front has a single-storey central block with a hipped roof and a central stack. On either side of this block are entrance porches, each with moulded, segmental arch doorways and raised, coped parapets that are inscribed with the words "GIRLS" and "BOYS."
Behind the large central gable, there is a prominent 6-light stepped cross mullion window. The left gable features a 4-light mullion window, while the right gable has a pair of large 4-light cross mullion windows. The main roof is crowned with a square wooden cupola topped by a pyramidal slate roof, and at the rear, there is an octagonal ventilator with a decorative cover. The classrooms also retain original ventilators on their roofs. Additionally, there is a wooden covered playground at the west corner of the school.
