Description
Manor House, now divided into two dwellings, likely dates to the 18th century, with possible remodelling around 1733-1771. Later alterations occurred in the late 19th century, and the building was subdivided and extended to the rear at that time. The house is constructed of sandstone ashlar, with a pantile roof. It has three chimney stacks, two of stone and one of rebuilt rendered brick. Originally designed as a three-cell through-passage house, it now presents a two-storey, five-window facade. Raised and chamfered quoins are visible. Number 20 retains its original doorway with a boarded door and a rectangular fanlight. It has four-pane sash windows with plain sills and lintels to the left, and above; a canted bay has been inserted to the right. Number 21's features include a 20th-century inserted door and single-pane swivel windows to the right and above, all set within square, raised architraves. Both doorways and the extreme right-hand windows have a moulded cornice above the architrave. A date stone, set within a square, raised architrave on the upper floor between the two houses, has a corresponding tablet beneath, believed to mark the later remodelling and to obstruct a former window. The building has a moulded eaves cornice, stone coping, and moulded kneelers. Inside Number 20, an upper room to the left features early 18th-century raised and fielded panelling on all four walls. It also contains a carved stone fireplace with an overmantel in the form of a picture panel, flanked by fluted pilasters and topped with a cornice. The ground floor to the left has an overmantel carved from a single stone slab, consisting of an oval between two rectangular panels. Moulded beams are visible in all four main rooms. Number 21 has no significant interior features.
