Description

Fogfield House and attached barn date from the mid-18th century, with an additional bay and barn likely added in the early 19th century. The house is constructed of ashlar, while the barn is of coursed squared gritstone, both with graduated stone slate roofs. The main block of the house is two storeys and two bays, with a later addition to the left. The main range features stressed quoins, a half-glazed door within a round-arched surround of stressed quoins, and ground-floor windows with paired 6-pane casements in projecting surrounds. The first floor has similar windows with 8 panes, featuring projecting sill and lintel bands. There is a shaped kneeler and gable coping to the right, alongside end stacks. The added bay to the left has a half-glazed 4-panel door and a 4-pane sash in a projecting surround on both floors. The barn, likely of six bays, includes a cart entrance with a keyed flat arch and splayed voussoirs, an arched recess above, and a byre door with tie-stone jambs. An upper floor window has 16 panes within an iron frame. The barn also has shaped kneelers and gable coping. Fogfield House is comparable in date and style to Whipley Hall near Clint.
