Description
Oxen Close is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, with its roof raised in the early 18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared gritstone and features a grey slate roof. The building has two storeys and three bays, with quoins at the corners.
A four-panel door is located between the left-hand bays, set in a chamfered stone surround with a stepped chamfer. The lintel has a defaced inscription and is topped with a single slab hood supported by stone brackets. The ground floor has recessed-chamfered mullion windows with configurations of three, four, and three lights, while the first floor features flat-faced mullion windows with arrangements of three, three, and two lights.
To the left, there is a shaped kneeler and gable coping. A brick ridge stack is positioned at the left gable, above the door and between the second and third bays, and is banded. There is a former outbuilding and smithy attached to the right, which has been converted into a house but is not of special interest.
