Description

Hampsthwaite Bridge over the River Nidd is a bridge that dates back to 1598 and was rebuilt in 1640, with 19th-century alterations. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone and features three segmental arches, with the voussoirs set back slightly. The bridge has triangular cut waters that are chamfered at the tops and carried up as recesses. Closely set corbels support an overhanging parapet made of three courses of stone, which is likely from the 19th century. Additionally, the southern arch has been widened on the west side to accommodate a change in the road alignment.
