Description
The Maltings building, dating from the mid or late 19th century, is constructed of brown brick and features very wide and shallow-pitched slate roofs. It stands three storeys tall, with the side elevations only two storeys high. The building is eleven bays long, with a taller three-bay block at the south end, where the roof ridge is perpendicular to the main axis. There is a deep and wide area to the south of this block. The east elevation includes two loading doors, while the north end elevation has seven bays on the ground and first floors, and five bays on the second floor, featuring small segment-headed unglazed openings with wooden casements. The central bay on the first floor has a loading door, and there is a timber pitched-roofed oriel supported by cast iron brackets on the second floor, along with a small opening in the gable. Additionally, there is a furnace house with a short tapering brick chimney of square plan located at the north-west corner.
