Description
The Chapel of St Mary Magdalene, built in 1868, is a Grade II listed building located on Magdalen's Road in Ripon. Constructed from limestone ashlar with a slate roof, the chapel features a nave and chancel that are not externally divided, along with a north-east vestry. The south porch is made of timber and has open cusped traceried sides. At the north-west corner, there is an open octagonal bell turret on a square base. The nave is adorned with paired lancet windows, while the west window and the "transept" display Geometrical bar tracery. The east window features Perpendicular tracery.
Historically, this chapel was built following the re-organisation of the Hospital of St Mary Magdalene in 1864, with funding provided by Rev George Mason, one of the trustees, who contributed £1,200 for its construction.
