Description

Nos 1 and 2 on Pump Street are a cottage and house, dating from the mid to late 17th century, with a date inscription of 1751. They are constructed of coursed rubble with sandstone ashlar dressings. No 1 has a concrete tile roof, while No 2 features clay pantiles with stone slates at the eaves. The buildings are two storeys high and have a partial rear outshut, with a total of three first-floor windows.

The structure has quoins, shaped kneelers, and ashlar copings. No 1 features a four-panel door set in a slightly chamfered ashlar surround with interrupted jambs, and a bay with a two-light double-chamfered mullion window. The left side has an external stack with a benchmark on the quoins, and in the rear angle, there is a rounded projection that may have been used for a bread oven. There is also a single-light double-chamfered window in the loft.

No 2 has a central part-glazed four-panel door in a chamfered quoined surround, with chamfer-stops on plinths. Above the door, there is an inscription reading "I W 1751". To the left of the door, there is a three-light double-chamfered mullion window, and to the right, an eight-pane sash window. On the first floor, there are two-light double-chamfered mullion windows, and both buildings have end stacks.
