Description
The obelisk at Hauxwell Hall, dated 1717, is constructed of ashlar and stands approximately 8 metres tall with a square base. It features a dado on the base and an inscription on the east face, along with a cornice. The obelisk has entasis, and the top half may have been rebuilt, culminating in a pyramidal top. At the very top, there is a wrought-iron weather vane. The inscription reads: 'In memory of Mrs Eliza Dalton daughter and one of the Coheiresses of Sir Marmaduke Dalton who in regard to her Family restored this Estate to her Uncle Sir Charles Dalton Gent Usher of the Black Rod in the year 1717'.
